TENSEI line restored Shakuhachi

Tensei translates as “rebirth of music” in Japanese. These are flutes that I’ve collected over the last three decades from Japan. These are both Jiari and Jinashi and come in different lengths from 1.4 F-pitch to 2.9 base F-pitch. Feel free to inquire if you don’t see what you’re looking for.

1.8 Kochyo Laminate Bamboo shakuhachi. I personally fine-tuned so it plays at a higher level. Also replaced the worn cork with a new one so the connection is quite snug. It an easy, friendly instrument with a bright lively voice and fast responsive attack for quick melodic playing. Perfect for study, performance and recording . It’s the flute on the far left. Purchase button under photos. $300 includes shipping.

1990’s Kinko Ryu made by Suzu Kaze – Cool Wind. I bound a long crack at the top section, made the joint snug, and refurbished the top interior minimally. A solid workhorse standard 1.8 with plenty of volume and great tuning. Great for all around playing of different styles, lessons, learning, gigging. Standard medium extrnal diameter and medium weight. $450 includes shipping.

A vibrant warm 2.2 length 1940’s Kinko Ryu Jiari that feels like a Jinashi. Has two maker’s hankos from Chiku – bamboo. can’t read the bottom kanji. I added a few bindings on hairline cracks, tightened the joint and filled a chip on the utaguchi. There was very minimal refurbishing at the top interior behind the utaguchi. here is also a spot on the top node with work broken bamboo skin. Its looks quite nice in a wabi sabi way. This flute flows with a warm voice throughout. A velvety tone wit a buzz when pushed.
