1.8 Seikado Shakuhachi made by the renown Kitahara family of Kyoto c1960s. Perfectly pitched and tuned for the Tozan style of contemporary shakuhachi music.
This flute has been in my possession for six years. I collected it in Tokyo in 2002 when it was damaged and not playing. It is now fully repaired and restored to it’s original playing condition with my low-impact approach to restorations. Topical nylon cord bindings were used to hold and stabilize the crack and a new water buffalo horn inlay was inserted. The work was sealed in the traditional Honsu red Japanese urushi lacquer. This flute plays well in tune for any professional or experienced shakuhachi player. It is dynamic and fully functional instrument capable of all the classical and advanced fingerings required of traditional shakuhachi music.
