Intermediate/advanced level Kinko Ryu 1.8 made by Murikami Kodo around 1960.
This fine used instrument is offered on consignment for one of Ralph Samuelson’s students. Only very fine instruments are used by Ralph’s students. This flute was purchased from John Singer 10 years ago. John only brings in high quality shakuhachi from Japan and the international shakuhachi community benefits form his arduous efforts in locating fine instruments. This is an advanced level flute for Kinko Ryu music and can easily be a concert instrument for the right player. The sound is strong and clear, Ro can Honk. Every note is clear and responsive with a quick “pop”. This flute is great for Sankyoku music or modern music as it is well in tune at A=440hz. The Thumb hole is a hair sharp as is the case with many flutes so that Go no Hi is easy in tune (second octave Thumb hole). Experienced players find this a non-issue as it’s very easy to play the thumb hole in tune with a slight meri technique.
There are two superficial cracks that never went through the bore on the top section. They are barely noticeable. The joint wrap is traditional urushi lacquer and is in very good condition for this age. There, however are two spots that show natural wear in eh from of small cracks (see photo). This does not affect the playability what so ever. This instrument is fully guaranteed and comes with a Yung Flutes lifetime servicing discount of 10% should it ever need repair.
There is a 14 days audition. The owner may consider a respectable offer. Payment must be made before shipping. Please feel free to ask any questions what so ever.
