Nakatsuki Joint work.
All modern two piece flutes may eventually need tightening at some point.The nakatsuki joint is the only moving part of a shakuhachi. In time, the lacquer may wear down or the the bamboo will change shape due to humidity change.
This was a unique repair for Joint tightening There were five sections! Each sections has to have several layers of urushi to slowly build up the walls. And with curing time between each coat, it can take about 10 days to make a really loose joint snug. Normal joint work can take about five business days.
