Here’s some raw stock next to my last 3.0. I think the piece of wood above was a part of a tree trunk with a woodpecker hole, not a giant flute! The 3.0 is about 90cm in length.

I had two 3.0s around and just let one go recently so there’s one left. I need to make another while I still have this one as it’s now my gauge flute. It needs a little more cosmetic work around the root and urushi work at the top behind the utaguchi before it becomes available. The deep buzzing RO can sounds like a Didgeridoo when the embouchure is just right.

The root had some harvest damage.

I patched the areas with a mixture if Bamboo Dust and CA glue then applied a wash of urushi lacquer to seal everything.

Quite a spread for the hands. The thumb hole is slightly offset to the left of the player to make the standard hand position easier. Most people may still have to use the pinky on the #3 hole.
