Craig’s work as a poet brought him much acclaim. Here is the recent wikipedia info:
As of April 30, 2009, Craig Arnold went missing on the small volcanic island of Kuchinoerabujima, Japan.[5] He went for a solo hike to explore an active volcano on the island and never returned to the inn where he was staying. While Japanese law mandates government-backed searches for three days, on April 30, 2009, the Japanese government agreed to extend the search an additional three days.[6] Arnold was not found, and the search was then picked up by the international NGO 1st Special Response Group.[7] Craig Arnold’s trail was found near a high cliff, and he was presumed to have died from a fatal fall near the date of his disappearance.[8]

Shakuhachi Making workshop

I had quite an action packed week. Aside from the ASCLEPIUS rehearsals, shakuhachi repairs, a private lesson with Riley Lee, I also taught a Shakuhachi making workshop at my apartment.
Shakuhachi in La MaMa E.T.C.‘s Asclepius

I first heard the shakuhachi around 1993 when I was performing in Ellen Stewart’s Oedipus the King. Ellen is the founder of La MaMa E.T.C. (Experimental Theater Club), the place that spawned many of the world’s great playwrights and directors such as Sam Sheppard, Joseph Chaikin and Tom O’Horgan to name a few.
Apollo’s Mask
Apollo’s Mask
I’ve been rehearsing nearly full time the past few weeks so some of the shop work is beginning to back up a little. On top of the flute repairs this week, I also have to adjust my mask. It turns out I’m doing a lot more movement then we all originally thought.
Blowing Meri and Kari on the Shakuhachi
I usually reply to technical support questions through email or phone but I recently offered an Mp3 lesson and responded by video, which we both found very useful. So, today I am replying to a question about a sharp Kan no Chi on an Earth Model flute.
Warming Up Before the Show
As a relatively young dad, I’m always doing two things at once. Here I am warming up on the shakuhachi and watching Sasa before the Hot Peas-n-Butter show in NYC.![]()
World Shakuhachi Festivals
International Shakuhachi Festivals are rare. Two have happened in the last five years.
