Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! The Yung Flutes shipping department is officially closed until Jan 3rd. If you order something, the earliest I can ship is on Jan 4th when I return to New York City. Until then, I will continue to work on commissions and repair flutes, like this one that just showed up under the tree.
Many Thamks to all who sent personal holiday greetings. I can’t get to the computer again for a few days but will reply personally soon. My warmest wishes for a happy and safe Holiday Seaon to you and your families.
A deep bow, Perry
Shakuhachi Saturday
![]()
Had a great weekend. Saturday in particular turned out to be a quite a full shakuhachi day. Started out the morning by warming up for the Symphony Space gig at 8am. The show was conveniently located near our residence on the Upper West Side. It was bitterly cold as soon as I stepped out the door at 9am. My only consolation was the thought that it’s always nice when you can walk to work
The forecast had reported the approach of the first winter snow storm. My flute was on my body underneath my coat.
Hot Peas and Butter Show Dec 19th

I was on my way to the Hot Peas and Butter rehearsal last night and walked past Madison Square Garden. I was reminded of the last concert I saw here…Elton John. I always thought that Captain Fantastic could have used a shakuhachi.
This Week’s Shakuhachi Repairs
These two flutes came in for repair this week. They can not be more different as representatives of the shakuhachi. There are many types of shakuhachi flutes but these two are at the opposite end of the spectrum: one crafted fairly recently by a famous, highly respected maker from a traditional lineage and the other carved by the hands of an anonymous wandering zen monk probably over 150 years ago.

Yung Flutes Holidays Gift Certificate
Hi All, I have quite a bit of work ahead of me for the holidays but I always try to accommodate. If you want to order a shakuhachi for a Holiday gift, the order has to be made before Dec 10th so hat it can be shipped out by Dec 20th. If you can not make the cut off date, the next best thing is the Yung Flutes Gift Certificate. It starts at $125 and includes an Earth Model shakuhachi with all the accessories to get started. Shipping is included. The Certificate is printed on Japanese inspired Washi style paper and comes with a matching envelope for a great presentation. There’s been a flurry of international activity this week with shakuhachi going to Australia, United Kingdom, Singapore, Italy and Germany. International orders take longer for shipping because of Customs Inspections so please factor that in onthe delivery time. The quickest and least expensive way for me to ship international is through USPS Express International. It is estimated at 5 days and runs between $$34 - $44 depending upon country. Canada is least expensive at $21. Here is a batch of Earth Model shakuhachi that went to Germany this week.
Shakuhachi Gifts.

I have received some amazing gifts over the years because of all the friends I meet through the shakuhachi. They are usually handmade by the people who play my flutes. This wonderful photograph just arrived. It was shot on Route 66 by David Weeks. This will fit nice over my workbench, next to the female mechanic holding a wrench
Thank you David. A deep bow.
